The Lone Star Shootout 2015

Jasen Gast’s REHAB is the 2015 Lone Star Shootout Tournament Champion!

52 boats entered the Shootout and contributed to an incredible optional side pot totaling $964,900! In addition to the big prize money paid out to the Shootout winners, HBGFC’s scholarship recipients and conservation projects were big winners with a 5 percent donation of $48,245 going directly to the Club’s Charitable Fund!

The Lone Star Shootout Tournament

The bite was on at the 2013 Lone Star Shootout! In addition to an impressive 31 billfish released, Mechanical Man boasted a 518 pound Blue Marlin catch!

We had 42 entries at the close of registration and the 37 boats that entered the optional pots shattered last year’s record prize money with an incredible $681,500 pot setting a new record contribution to the HBGFC’s Charitable Program of $34,075!

Final Results:

The 2013 Shootout Champion is the Done Deal, with an incredible 4 blue marlin released totaling 3,000 points. Done Deal owner is Jon Gonsoulin, Captain Jason Buck.

Second Place: Nereus released 3 blue marlin, totaling 2,250 points. Nereus owner is Michael Thorn-Leeson, Captain Sean Welsh.

Third Place: REHAB released 2 blue marlin, totaling 1,500 points. REHAB owner is Jasen Gast, Captain Kerry Fritz.

Poco Bueno Thrills Crowd in Port O’Connor

With humble beginnings as a small fishing competition among a group of friends in 1969, Poco Bueno is now an internationally recognized fishing tournament that attracts thousands each year to the Texas Gulf Coast. On Wednesday, July 18, more than 1,800 people gathered at Caracol in Port O’Connor, Texas to cheer on 110 offshore and 99 inshore boats.

Mojo Takes First Place at 2012 Lone Star Shootout

A crowd of 500 fishing enthusiasts, family members, friends and spectators gathered for Houston Big Game Fishing Club’s annual billfish tournament, The Lone Star Shootout held at Caracol July 24th to 28th.

The festivities kicked off with a crawfish boil beer bash, followed by a pot party and a boat parade. The boats left Caracol to begin their quests, with forty-two (42) boats competing for a total of $625,100 in prize money. But no matter who took home the grand prize, the real winners were Houston Big Game Fishing Club’s charitable programs, receiving $31,255 in contributions.

The champions party celebrated 1st place winner Mojo, which released a record 18 billfish including 9 white marlin and 9 sailfish for a total of 2,700 points. Congratulations Owner Will Lett and Captain Brian Phillips!

Coming in at second (2nd) place was Over-Ride with 4 blue marlin and 1 sailfish released, 2,100 points. Owner: Marty Griffith, Captain: Ryan Doxey

Leveled Out took third place, with 4 blue marlin released, 2,000points. Owner: Ed Williams, Captain: Lupe Sanchez
